Happy New Year!

It's raining goodies

Have I mentioned lately that I've been shopping? This is scrapbookers' favorite time of year. The summer trade show debuting new products for the second half of the year has passed and stores are receiving new lines almost daily. Big box stores like Joann, Michael's and Hobby Lobby are putting out seasonal products for fall. I'm trying to be a more selective shopper this season, but with all the wonderful new temptations, it's so hard! Here are a few things that made the cut.

New stickers including chipboard alphas from Cosmo Cricket and 97% complete labels from 7 Gypsies.

This line actually came out in late spring. It's Fly a Kite from October Afternoon. The papers are adorable and can be used for tons of projects.

My Mind's Eye came out with arguably the best line of CHA Summer. Lost and Found features glittered papers and embellishments. My absolute favorite thing are the brad packs. There are four different sets and at $5 each they are quite a value.

EMI just received 2 new lines from Jillibean Soup. They have totally redesigned their journaling sprouts to coordinate with the paper lines.

I've also been scooping up paper and embellishments for two big projects. These are my supplies are an album I'm making for a friend with 2 small boys.

I loved the idea of taking papers traditionally designed for July 4th and bringing them together with boy-themed embellishments. Red, white and blue are great colors for little boys.

My other project is tackling the pictures we have from our summer vacation. I've been collecting papers from various lines like Fancy Pants Rusted Sun, Bella Blvd All Inclusive, and Making Memories Panorama. When I went to make my first layout, I discovered I had very few embellishments. I allowed myself a small shopping spree, and came back with these.

Most of these were $1 and $2 items, so I didn't feel too bad.

I look forward to sharing these projects with you. Have a great week! Thanks for reading.

As promised

My summer has not been as productive with new scrapbooking as I would like, but here a few pages to share.

This one is a combination of Pink Paislee Queen Bee and Crate Paper Brook papers, a Fancy Pants flocked transparency, and Crate Paper brads.

Little Yellow Bicycle came out with a super cute baby line this summer with boy and girl papers. These are boy papers and stickers with layered flowers from K and Co.

I just loved Bella Blvd's Estate Sale line. My favorite things are the great chipboard shape sets. There is some Cosmo and Sass on here too.

My Mind's Eye's So Sophie line was my favorite mid-season release. It was a line with a ton of value. The die cut papers are doubled sided, and the 12x12 papers came with mini bracket-shaped borders. Since the page was for a MME challenge, I included Meadowlark and Quite Contrary paper, Lush brads and So Sophie stickers.

This page was one built from my stash. Papers from Fancy Pants Road Show and Webster's 6x6 specialty vellum and die cut pack. Stickers are Basic Grey and Jenni Bowlin. The pleated ribbons are from Pink Paislee.

I'm so glad to share these with you. Thanks for reading.

CKC and the Wiggles

I'm up to my ears in great new scrapbooking products. I've recently purchased 3 new EK Success border punches 2 of which are new the large size.

This past weekend while I was in Charolotte I picked up some great $1 embellishments at CKC. I splurged on new Basic Grey flowers and pieces.

I also visited LSS Family Memories. I've been looking for We R Memory Keepers and Bella Blvd Man of the House. They had both plus Pink Paislee Starlight.

Over the course of the summer between Scrapbook Expo, CKC, EMI, Archiver's and Your Scrapbook Stash I've pick up these new paper lines: Fancy Pants Wishful Thinking and Rusted Sun, Sassafras Lass Indie Girl, October Afternoon Thrift Shop and Fly a Kite, Bo Bunny Sunkissed and Paradise, Basic Grey Max and Whiskers and Capella, Making Memories Panorama, My Mind's Eye So Sophie, Studio Calico Documentary, Girls Paperie On Holiday, Kaisercraft Peachy Keen, Prima Pastiche, Adorn It Busy Bee. I'll be the busy bee making projects with these awesome products this fall.

I've also been playing with samples from CHA for Basic Grey Wander, Jillibean Soup, Fancy Pants It's Your Day, Teresa Collins Celebrate and Echo Park Life is Good. The layouts I'm making are for EMI's grand reopening at their new location. Check out their blog for details. The store just received My Mind's Eye new lines. There are 6 in all including Lost and Found which was the talk of CHA.

While I was away, my son was treated to his first concert venue show. No it wasn't Van Halen or Snoop.

Here is Shane doing his best Captain Feathersword.

Headed to CKC Charlotte

I've never had an opportunity to check out Charlotte, NC before. I now have some good friends living there, and with CKC happening Friday and Saturday this is the perfect time for me to go. I'm really looking forward to checking out the local scene and getting my hands on some new products from CHA Summer.

I've been working like crazy on samples for EMI. They have tons of new stuff coming in. The grand opening of the new store is this weekend, and I hate that I'll be missing it. Check back next week for pics and new projects.

Silly inspiration

It's easy to scrap when you've got such a fun subject!

So, did you follow the CHA news last week? Even better, were you lucky enough to attend? I was not, but I have friends who were there and I can't wait to peruse their pics. It looked like an awesome show. I was inspired to do some shopping and creating.

Below are papers and stickers from October Afternoon's Thrift Shop collection. I loved the vintage look when it came out, but it's taken me awhile to get to creating with it.

At the upper left corner, you can see a small section of my layout in progress. I used both of the new EK Success slimline border punches I purchased yesterday. Here they are.

The lower one is the standard size with a new bracket design. The upper one is from the new jumbo series EK recently released. Here is a closeup

I found that one along with a mess of new styles randomly at my local Joann. There had to have been 30 different ones to choose from including new Halloween and Holiday themes.

They are pricey at $17.99, but that's what 40% off coupons are for!
Another surprise at Joann was tons of new embellishments including a section dedicated to K and Co.

If you have one near you, I definitely recommend a trip in the near future. Thanks for reading.

Wow Sassafras!

CHA Summer has just wrapped. There were some pretty incredible products from what I could see in my browse pics of Scrapbook Update and Flickr. I think I am most excited for these awesome new embellishments from Sassafras.

What a sight! For details check out their blog.

Donna Downey at EMI

Donna Downey spent this past Saturday teaching classes at EMI. It was a great experience. I participated in the Elegant Garden canvas layout class. Sorry no pic at the moment. Shane was with me in the morning and wanted to get in on the creative action.

The evening before I was at Archiver's with my good friend Kathy, her sister Rose, and my new friend Anne. I made my first read card.

It's part of my submission for the Bo Bunny design team call. More projects later this week. Thanks for reading.

Catching Up

It's been a busy 2 weeks since we returned from vacation. I've applied to be a Bella Blvd Artista (Guest Designer) and I'm considering the Bo Bunny Design Team call. It would be a huge honor to be invited to one or both of those groups. There has been some real scrapbooking too! The blogs for Your Scrapbook Stash and My Mind's Eye have sketch challenges going on right now. Here's a sneak of my MME entry:

I'm using papers from So Sophie and Meadowlark journaling cards.

Last week Scrapbook Expo stopped in Atlanta. While the vendor fair was smaller than last year, I still enjoyed shopping and picked up some unique embellishments.

I also purchased papers from Bo Bunny Paradise and Sunkissed, October Afternoon Thirft Shop, Basic Grey Capella, My Mind's Eye So Sophie, and Bella Blvd All Inclusive. The most unique item I got was this.

While at the show, I got to chat with Atlanta Scrapbook Examiner. It's a great resource for Atlantans. Last but not least, EMI will be hosting workshops with Donna Downey this weekend. There are still spaces available. Go here for more info.

Thanks for reading.

Lucky boy, lucky hat, lucky mommy!

We've been sailing with The Mouse

Just returned from a week long trip aboard Disney's Wonder cruise ship. It was a fantastic time. I'm sorting through the nearly 800 pictures we took. Be back soon.

Recent Publications

I know I've been lax about updating recently. My professional work has been new and exciting, and the fam has been spending alot of time together enjoying the summer. The downside has been not having as much time to focus on my scrapbooking. I promise this is a temporary interruption. What I can tell you is that I've had some recent publications that reaffirm my dreams of success with scrapbooking. Last week one of my layouts was published on the Bo Bunny blog. Yesterday, I received a request from to publish my college memories mini book and 2 other graduation-themed layouts. They'll be online in August. The last big thing to report is I'll have my first Crafting Jewish Style Sketch Inspiration post on their blog this Sunday.

More frequent posts on the way next month. Thanks so much for checking in.

Have I been shopping?

Of course! I am always looking for great independently owned scrapbooking and craft stores. It's nice to order from the big guys like 2 Peas, or A Cherry On Top (my faves) but the LSS have alot of benefits. Recently I found Your Scrapboook Stash. In addition to have nearly all the latest and greatest products, they have a great blog with fun challenges and a very talented design team. I mention the design team because they are currently have a call going on, and I would love to be selected!

Here are a few shots of the great products I ordered from YSS.

A couple different styles of journaling cards from Elle's Studio and Maya Road. YSS also carries a company called Shabby Chic Cards, which I'd never heard of before. The MME anniversary frame-ups were one of my surprise freebies!

All these stickers were on clearance - at least 50% off. Journaling circle labels from Making Memories in 2 different styles and one of the American Crafts 8 page books. This one has a baby boy theme, but only half the labels are baby-specific. 2 sets of glittered sticker boarders from Crate Paper. These are 2 older lines, but for a buck each who cares! The GCD Homespun fabric tags were another freebie. I did order some patterned paper, but it was vintage stuff. Pink Paislee Fetching/Captivating and Basic Grey Nook and Pantry. Those of you who've been following my blog since last fall may remember my love-hate relationship with that line. I've finally decided I like it especially for mini books!

I do have some new patterned paper lines to share. The left below is Collage Press Joyride. Been wanting to check out their papers. Also got 1 sheet of the journaling cards. On the right a few sheets of Prima's spring line, Pastiche. As pretty in person as it looks on the screen!

Here are papers from 2 Little Yellow Bicycle lines - Gen Z on the left, and Snuggle Bug on the upper right. The lower papers are the new Bee Happy line from AdornIt. Cute and affordable.

Have a great weekend. Thanks for reading.

It's officially summer

Our neighborhood pool opened this past week and yesterday we spent a few hours there. It's amazing how different Shane is in the water from last year to this year. He practically wants to swim by himself. We've decided to invest in some private lessons for him, so look for fun pool layouts soon! The arrival of summer has also meant we're busier than ever with outdoor activities. This is great, but doesn't leave much time or energy for scrapbooking! I have several projects in progress. Here are a few sneaks.

Sassafras Lass Cherry Delicious

My Mind's Eye Life Stories and Bella Bella. New Jillibean Soup journaling sprouts.

New photo mini book. The background papers are My Mind's Eye and Webster's Pages. The accent papers are from one of my all-time favorite lines, Pink Paislee Fetching/Fascinating/Captivating. Embellishments are GCD, Basic Grey, Pink Paislee, 7 Gypsies, and K and Co.

I'm very excited because Crafting Jewish Style is rolling out all new content and projects starting in June. Look for projects using all 3 of the current product lines, techniques and tutorials and more. Lisa Spiegel will host the first featured scrapper, Keshet Shenkar. I'll be hosting a sketch inspiration and challenge on Sunday, June 27.

Have a great week. Thanks for reading.

Scrapbook Trends: Mission Accomplished

One of my scrapbooking goals for 2010 was to get a layout published in Scrapbook Trends magazine. I received an email from the magazine's editor yesterday requesting one of my layouts for publication. I'm very excited to be included, and I hope I'll have more opportunities to show my work in print. It'll be included in the October 2010 issue, so it will be November before I can show the piece online. If you subscribe or get the magazine on occasion, it will be included in the rub-ons feature.

1 year anniversary

Hello everyone. I hope you had an enjoyable weekend. I can hardly believe we're half way through the month of May. In the south, schools let out before Memorial Day. This is their last week. It'll be nice to have a break from the morning school/work commute traffic. I don't remember there being a pronounced change where I grew up, but there certainly is here.

April marked my 1 year anniversary as a scrapbooker. Technically I started in February 2009, but April was when I went to my first LSS (local scrapbooking store) and bought what would be the final issue of Simple Scrapbooks. I found it disappointed that I discovering a hobby when it was in such a time of downturn and turmoil. In honor of this milestone, I thought I'd share one of my first real "layouts."

These are pictures of Shane and his friend Jonah. The papers are a huge mismash of companies and styles. I did use a sketch so the basic composition is there. Contrast that with a layout I did a few weeks ago using Pink Paislee's Bayberry Cottage line. The pictures are also of Jonah, 1 year older.

What a difference a year makes! My one year blogging anniversary is in July. I'll have to think of something fun to reward my loyal followers. I know you're out there!

I've had some great opportunities coming my way lately. Last month I found out 1 of my layouts was selected for a new book by Memory Makers. There will be over 500 pages featured, and it's an honor to be included. I believe the book will be available in late 2010 or early 2011. There was a large call for Hanukkah projects by Creating Keepsakes. I was able to submit several layouts, and I hope at least 1 will be included. In addition, there may be some Crafting Jewish Style products featured. Another opportunity of sorts have been the summer design team calls going on. Unfortunately, I was not selected for the Noel Mignon kit club or Glitz Designs, but I'm hopefully one of my other applications will result in an invitation.

Here are some sneaks of pages I've completed this month.

Fancy Pants My Family

Basic Grey Kioshi and Origins

Fancy Pants Roadshow

Here's a snapshot of Shane I took with my phone in the car this afternoon. Could he be cuter? I'll have some pics of a new mini book and lots of new paper lines I've been hiding! Thanks for reading.
